TRIBUTES have been paid to a "bubbly, generous and caring" woman who died following a crash on Anglesey.

Blodwen Thomas, 71, from Brynsiencyn, died following a crash on the A4080 near Brynsiencyn on Saturday (August 18).

Mrs Thomas was married to Donald for 51 years. She was described as a loving mother to Sandra, Martin and her late daughter Karen.

She was a "proud" grandmother to Erin, Gethin, Lwsi, Siwan, Alaw and Elin.

In a statement, the family said: "Blodwen was in her element taking care of her family’s needs and always put everyone before herself. She was truly the much-loved head of the family and leaves a huge void.

"Everyone who knows Blodwen, will remember her as a bubbly, generous, caring and outgoing lady who would go the extra mile for anyone she could help.

"She had a natural ability to make friends and to make people feel welcome."

Mrs Thomas was instrumental in setting up the nursery school in Brynsiencyn and was the nursery teacher for more than 10 years.

The family added: "She will be fondly remembered by many of her former pupils.

"By the time her own children had left school, she had qualified as a SEN nurse, working in both Druid and Cefni hospitals and then on the district in Beaumaris before retiring 10 years ago to look after her grandchildren."

Since losing her daughter, Karen Williams, Llannerchymedd, in 2012, she has devoted her spare time to raising money for Cancer Research and was a proud, founding member of Karen’s Chicks, who as a group have themselves raised in excess of £50,000 – the highlight each year being the Relay for Life event in Treborth.

On the morning of the accident she had been raising money in a supermarket in Llangefni.

Blodwen was a Bingo fan and was a familiar face in Caernarfon.

The family said: "She had an immense sense of community spirit and enjoyed the many activities at “Cylch y Bryn”.

"We are particularly in awe of the sensitive and professional way the ambulance staff took care of Lwsi, Blodwen’s granddaughter, who was with her in the car. Thankfully, Lwsi is now at home recovering with the family.

"The family wish to express their gratitude to the respectful care and support given to them by the emergency services at the scene of the accident and afterwards. The family also specifically request that no floral tributes are left at the side of the road."

The incident on Saturday involved a blue Ford Fusion and a white Ford Focus. North Wales Police were called shortly after 3.30pm to a reports of a two-vehicle collision.

The male driver of the Ford Focus was also taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd with serious, but not life threatening injuries.

Anybody who can assist with the investigation is asked to contact officers at the Western Roads Policing Unit. Quote reference number W117061.
