PUPILS across the UK will be picking up those all important A level results today.

GWYNEDD

Students at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen in Caernarfon are celebrating after receiving excellent grades.

Tomos Roscoe achieved one A and three B's and is off to Liverpool University to study Physics. Sara Griffith also did very well, picking up three A*'s and one A and she is now set to go off to Glasgow to study dentistry.

Eben Luff received two A's, one A* and one B and Sara Gwyn received two A's, one B and one C.

There were smiles all around at Ysgol Tryfan too as many of the students there made it into the Universities of their choosing.

Ioan Rheinallt (pictured below) received three A*'s and Osian ap Sion (also below) achieved three A's and an A* and will be going to Edinburgh University.

Staying with Tryfan and these three below also achieved fantastic grades this morning. Speaking on the success of his students, Ysgol Tryfan Headmaster Gwyn Tudur said: "It's been a very successful day for us here and an important one for the school too.

"Nearly all of our students made it into their first choice universities and it was great to see all the smiles around the school this morning.

"I would like to thank all the staff and pupils for all their hard work throughout the year."

Staff and pupils at Bangor-based St. Gerard's school were also celebrating this morning.

Headteacher, Campbell Harrison said: "Our pupils have once again produced a high standard of results at A Level in the 2018 exams.
"With results above the national average our pupils will be going on to attend top universities in the UK including Oxford, Manchester Metropolitan, Aberystwyth, Nottingham and Loughborough. 

"Their chosen programmes show a variety of interests including medicine, nursing, automotive engineering, geology, aerospace and three-dimensional design. Congratulations to all pupils and good luck with your future studies."

Over at Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen (Bethesda), students received high praise from their headmaster after achieving high grades.

Headteacher Dylan Davies said that Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen was a "very happy place to be this morning" as the students came to collect their results, with almost every one of them being accepted onto their first choice course.

Head pupil Owain Morgan , who was unable to collect his results this morning as he is away at summer school, received and exceptional four A* grades in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry.

Gwenllian Owen received three A’s and one B and will be studying Law and European Studies at Leeds, whilst Ffion Elin Roberts came away with  two A’s and one C and is going to Nottingham to study Law. Elen Wyn received three A’s and one C and will be going on to study Welsh and music at Bangor and Martha Glain Evans will be studying optometry at Cardiff after receiving one A*, one A, one B and one C.

Headteacher Mr Davies congratulated all the students and their parents for their successes and thanked the teachers for their "unstinting hard work" in supporting them.

Ysgol Friars pupils achieved some of the best A level results the school has ever seen - with a 100% pass rate.

Headteacher Neil Foden said: “We're absolutely delighted with our results this year which are up on last year in most of the key indicators.

"We again have students who have secured places at the UK's top universities, including two who will be going to Cambridge, and many who have done better than they expected.

"It's been great to see so many smiling faces again this year and to know that we have helped open doors to a future full of potential for so many.”

Among the top performers at Friars were Kieran Dalton (Four A*'s, one A), Jack Curtis (Four A*'s), Sian Thorpe (Four A*'s), Loren Molyneux (Three A*'s, one A) and Adhu Shrikanth (One A*, three A's).

Gwynedd Council members have congratulated the county’s pupils on their results.

Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Education said: We can take pride in the success of our young people. The students are to be congratulated for their dedication and perseverance.

"I would also like to offer my sincere gratitude to the teachers for their hard work during the year and for preparing students so thoroughly for the examinations.

“I would like to wish all the very best to our young people as they make their choices for the next steps in their careers.”

Garem Jackson, Head of Education for Gwynedd Council, stated that he was very pleased with the A Level results of students in Gwynedd secondary schools.

“The percentage achieving grades A*-E across all subjects was very good again this year," he said.

"The percentage achieving a grade A or better is 22.8%, and the percentage gaining A*-E grades is 100% across the majority of subjects.

"This is pleasing and reflects the support and guidance provided for our young people."

ANGLESEY

Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi's headmaster has been quick to heap praise on his students this morning after they ahcieved high grades.

Adam Rhys Williams hailed his pupils' "excellent results" with the likes of Jack Conrad Smith, Alex Condliffe, Jack Gibson and Beth Jones amongst the top performers at the school.

"We wish all our students the best of luck in their next part of their journey," said Mr Williams.

"Many of them have achieved excellent results this year and will be moving on to further education, training and employment."

Meanwhile at Ysgol Bodedern, the following pupils achieved outstanding results: Catrina Gore (Two A's, two B's and one C) - she is off to study biological science at Bangor University. Kirsten MacDonald received three B's and two C's and is now set to go to follow a musical theatre course at the University of West London.

Bodedern Head teacher Mrs Catrin Jones Hughes congratulated all students on their results and wished them all the best on their chosen college courses or in their new jobs. She also thanked staff for their continuous dedication and hard work.

Pupils at Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones in Amlwch also enjoyed success this morning.

Particularly successful accross their subjects were Freya Moran (One A*, two A's and one B), Jackie Hutchinson (One A and four B's), Llyr Evans (Four B's), Connor Ault (Two distinctions, one B and one C) and Eabha Roberts (One A*, one A, one B and one C).

Headmaster Aaron Bayley said: "Once again this year as staff and governors of Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones we would like to congratulate our students on their achievements and progress.

"They have represented the school and their community exceptionally well and have achieved high quality results once again. They have worked hard and shown real promise as they look to progress to the next level of learning.

"As many now look forward to further study at degree level and others move into apprenticeships we wish them all the very best for the future."

Meanhwile, Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni pupils were celebrating achieving some very impressive grades.

Amongst the school’s highest A Level achievers this year was Oliver Lewis who obtained three A*'s, one A and one B and is now going on to study electrical engineering and electronics at Liverpool University.

Another high achiever was Catrin Trefor who has secured her place to study Law at Manchester University by obtaining two A*'s and two A's.

Headmaster Clive Thomas said: "Congratulations to all of our pupils who received their A Level and AS Level results today. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

"I would like to thank them and the school staff for their hard work over the last two years, which has paid off and enabled our pupils to achieve praiseworthy results today."

There was also smiles all around at Ysgol David Hughes in Menai Bridge this morning - including from a talented set of triplets.

Giovanna (Two A's, two B's), Isabella (A*,A and two B's) and Vanessa (Three A's, one B) Atanes-Enepi enrolled with the school after moving to Anglesey from Brazil in 2014. Today they celebrated achieving their results together (pictured below).

Other star A level performers at the school included Harry Thorpe (Two A*'s, two A's) who is now off to study medicine at Cambridge University, Becky Lemon (Two A*'s, two A's) who is also off to study medicine but at Dundee University.

School headmaster Mr Emyr Williams was delighted with his pupils' results.

"It is very satisfying that the vast majority of our students have secured the university course of their choice," he said.

"I would like to congratulate our students on their excellent results and we are delighted with the outstanding performance at both A Level and AS Level this year and in what this means for individual students and their families.

"These results are an excellent reflection of the hard work and ability shown by our students and they are a tribute to the outstanding support and guidance that has been provided by our staff."
