A GREEN-fingered amateur cacti enthusiast and plant grower had a bitter-sweet victory at the Anglesey Show.

Brenda Williams, of Môn Cacti, gave the other contestants a prickly problem by walking away with 14 first prizes, and the large gold medal for cactus display, best exhibit; cactus display and best exhibit; dahlia.

Brenda, who is a school caretaker, and lives at Y Garnedd at LlanfairPG, lost her friend and show helper Alwyn Jones, just before the show and also her father Gwilym back in February.

Gwilym, had helped her plant the prize giant, winning violet coloured dahlia in his garden but never got to see it reach its full glory.

"It would be nice to think that he's somewhere looking down on me now. He'd be so proud.

"I am happy to have won the prizes but it's sad my dad didn't get to see my success. It was hard also as I lost my friend, Alwyn, who used to help me,just two weeks ago. I really miss him too."
