A SPECIAL concert marking local Welsh talent is being held in Bangor.

Pontio arts and innovation centre is holding a special ‘Celebratory Concert’ showcasing the successes of local people and marking the Gorad restaurant’s new look and menu.

Performing will be Côr Ieuenctid Môn, Gruffydd Wyn Roberts, a former member of the choir, and Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Aelwyd JMJ, at Bangor University, and Band Pres Llareggub. Côr Ieuenctid Môn has now been performing for more than 12 years. It has over 150 members and three choirs - the Junior Choir, the Youth Choir and Coda.

The choir has performed at some of Wales’ principal venues and beyond, including London’s Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall. Highlights in recent years included celebrating its first decade, singing with Bryn Terfel, winning the Côr Cymru Youth Choir Championship, and successes at the National Eisteddfod, including being crowned Choir of the Festival at the National Eisteddfod at Bodedern in 2017. Gruffydd Wyn Roberts was an ardent member of the choir and its members say they are looking forward to sharing the stage with him again. Pontio also says it is ‘glad’ to have an opportunity to perform to Gruffydd, who is also a member of its front of house staff.

Following their success at the Urdd National Eisteddfod at Llanelwedd this year, Aelwyd JMJ will be performing. At the festival they were aarded three first prizes, three seconds and one third, their greatest success to date.

Band Pres Llareggub is based on the Snowdonia brass band traditions. It will be blowing, shouting, jumping and dancing, combining various genres. Hip Hop, Drum’ n’ Bass and New Orleans Jazz will be combined with Welsh hymns and Dafydd Iwan’s anthems.

Meinir Gwilym performs free at the Gorad restaurant before the concert. The concert will is at 8pm, Theatr Bryn Terfel, Friday, September 28. Tickets £14/£12. pontio.co.uk 01248 38 28 28. For a table bwydabar@pontio.co.uk. 01248 383826.
