A CEREMONY has been held at Bangor's Ysgol Glancegin to help celebrate its first birthday.

Pupils, teachers and Bangor mayor John Wynn Jones gathered at the school based in the Maesgeirchen area to mark the special milestone.

Gwynedd council chair, councillor Annwen Hughes and cabinet member for education, cllr Gareth Thomas, were also in attendance as a presentation was given by pupils from the school.

Commenting on a successful afternoon, Gareth Jones, Headteacher at Ysgol Glancegin, said: “The whole process has been an exciting experience for pupils and staff as we have been able to see the site at different stages of its design and construction.

"Certainly, we are delighted at the new school and the pupils have already greatly benefited from the new building and great facilities that are offered here."

The new school, co-funded by Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government via a £5.1m investment, includes modern classrooms, new play areas and outdoor learning spaces.

After seeing first hand the progress that is being made at the school, cllr Gareth Thomas said: "It was great to see the pupils enjoying themselves at Ysgol Glancegin.

"It was obvious that they are making the most of the substantial investment and the brand new facilities available to them.

“As a Council, we are eager to ensure that pupils in communities across the county can benefit from first class facilities, and the new Ysgol Glancegin is a great example of that.

As the new site has been built near the old school building that dated back to the 1960’s, the pupils also had the opportunity to contribute to the school’s design and to keep an eye on the developments.
