THE SIXTH annual Dragon Boat challenge made a splash as teams went head to head in a boat race and raised over £20,000 in aid of St. David's Hospice.

On June 30, more than 300 rowers descended on the shores of Llyn Padarn, Llanberis to paddle their way to victory in their 40ft Dragon Boats.

Many came in fancy dress with bumble bees, glamorous grannies, pink ladies, Hawaiian outfits and Vikings providing a unique view to spectators.

The sunshine was also out in full force, as friends and family packed the banks to cheer on the boats whilst enjoying the carnival sounds of Bloco Swn.

The Dream of Dan’s Dragons were once again crowned winners in the final race, with the Lyons Pendyffryn Warriors a close second.

Commenting on the event, organiser Daisy Magill said: "It was great to see so many people come along and support St David’s Hospice.

"We have had lovely feedback and people certainly seemed to enjoy the day.

"Thank you to everybody who took part in the day – without you we simply would not have been able to put on such a great event."

The money raised during the Dragon Boat race will go directly towards delivering free high quality Hospice care to those in need across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.
