A PLANNED display by some volunteers from RNLI Beaumaris of the lifeboat coinciding with the start of a community cycle ride had to be rescheduled after an alert out off Penmon point, Anglesey.
A request from the UK Coastguard was issued for them to attend a yacht aground near Dinmore Quarry by Penmon today (Sunday).
As the Beaumaris lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington is currently being refurbished at the inshore lifeboat centre at Cowes on the Isle of Wight it was left to the relief lifeboat named Norma Ethel Vinall to answer the call launching at10.09am and proceeded to the area.
The lifeboat took a bilge pump unfortunately however when they reached the 31ft vessel her deck was already awash and the stern rising above the water.
The crew of four from the craft had managed to reach the shore by using the yacht tender to be met by the Penmon Coastguard Rescue Team.
The yacht had her anchor out but was beam on to the beach in an on shore breeze with a half metre swell. The lifeboat recovered some small flotsam and checked for any sign of fuel leakage
As the lifeboat was unable to assist further permission was given by the UK Coastguard for her to return to station arriving back at 11.35am.
