THE INAUGURAL ‘Zip World Rocks’ festival organised by musician Mike Peters has raised more than £25,000 for charity.
Held at Penrhyn Quarry on Saturday June 23, the event saw a crowd of more than 1,000 fans attend what turned out to be a very successful gig.
Alarm frontman Mike, who lives in Dyserth, has battled cancer on three separate occasions since 1995.
The 59-year-old decided to set up the festival in order to raise money for the Love, Hope, Strength Foundation, a cancer charity he founded 11 years ago.
Mike also led a group of 400 people, including wife Jules and sons Dylan and Evan, on a 12-mile fundraising walk through Snowdonia before the main event took place at Zip World.
Those who attended were treated to live music throughout the night as headliners Slade took to the stage alongside the likes of Maffia Mr Huws and Mike Peters himself.
Zip World co-founder and co-director Sean Taylor was full of gratitude to all those who attended the fundraising festival.
“We would like to thank every single person who attended Zip World Rocks for making it such a success,” he said.
“It was the first one we had done, but we’ll certainly be up for doing more.
“It was fantastic to see such a buzz in and around Bethesda, with so many visitors to our community coming, staying and having a brilliant time.
“The positive effects for the whole region should be felt and most importantly the money raised will make a real difference to people living with cancer here in North Wales. That is what it was all about.”
Juless, who has herself recently overcome breast cancer, said: “Zip World may have helped save lives through hosting this event.
“With the money they have raised for Love, Hope, Strength, they will definitely help change the lives of families affected by cancer here in North Wales.”
Mik was first diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995 and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia in 2005.
He has now been given new drugs, meaning he is no longer required to undergo three-weekly chemotherapy sessions.
He says he decided to set up his Love, Hope, Strength foundation to help “make a difference” to the lives of the people in North Wales who have been affected by cancer.
