A NEW stretch of coastal path is set to open on Anglesey following a discussion between several parties.

Members of Ynys Mon Ramblers Group (YMRG) have worked hard for around eight years to bring coastal paths closer to the island's beaches.

They recently received the news that Baron Hill Estate owner Sir Richard Bulkeley has agreed a deal with Anglesey Council's highways department to open a new path leading from Bryn Offa to Fedw Fawr in Llanddona.

"There are still some 30 miles of Anglesey coastal paths that are either some distance from the coast or parts with no paths at all," A spokesperson for the YMRG said.

"Four of the large landowners have consistently thwarted all efforts to achieve this aim but we have now had a great breakthrough."

The newly opened path will give stunning views across Red Wharf Bay on one side to the Great Orme in Llandudno on the other.

At the same time, a path used by fishermen from Bwrdd Arthur to the coast which has been blocked for years by work at Tan Dinas quarry, has been re-opened on a slightly different line.

Andria Massey, footpath secretary for the YMRG added: "Obviously, our members are absolutely delighted that this has been achieved.

"It really is worth persisting despite all the obstacles put in our way.

"This new path will provide walkers with wonderful views and will really help bring out the best that our island has to offer."

The group say they are now hoping to get the path extended to link to Penmon and further along the coast.
