A man self medicated with cannabis because of health issues but it didn’t work, a judge heard.

Defence barrister Matthew Dunford said that according to a community nurse it had “contributed to his current emotional and mental state”.

Simon Harris, aged 33, admitted possessing the drug with intent to supply.

Ffion Tomos, prosecuting at Caernarfon crown court on Thursday described how 600 grammes of cannabis worth between £1,200 and £1,600, together with dealing paraphernalia and mobile phone evidence had been recovered in a police raid of Harris’ home at Ger y Winllan, Llangefni.

Judge Timothy Petts imposed a nine months suspended sentence with a year’s drug rehabilitation. Harris must carry out 180 hours of unpaid work with a 15-day rehabilitation programme.

The judge said he was prepared to give Harris a chance to work with the probation service. He said : “The pre-sentence report says you have a long time history of cannabis and for a considerable time have been attempting to self medicate.”
