A PRIMARY SCHOOL on Anglesey is one of a handful throughout the whole of Wales to have received an "excellent" rating during recent inspections made by ESTYN.

Ysgol Rhosybol, which has 69 pupils, is also believed to be one of only two Welsh language led schools in the country to have received the honour following inspections made in March.

Gwenan Roberts, who has been the school's headteacher since 2015, was delighted to have received news which she believes highlights the hard-working attitude within the school.

"I am ever so proud of both the staff and the pupils for their efforts throughout the year," she said.

"It just goes to show that even the smallest of schools can achieve great things if they put their minds to it."

The inspection looks at five particular aspects; standards, welfare, learning and teaching experiences, support and guidance and leadership and management.

Ysgol Rhosybol officially received their "excellent" report in May and the school's chairman of governors, Gwilym Morris, was quick to heap praise on staff.

"Gwenan Roberts and the rest of the staff at the school have done a fantastic job of runningit," he said.

"They should all be very proud of what they have achieved."

Councillor Aled Morris Jones, who represents the Twrcelyn ward of Anglesey where the school is based, added: "I would like to personally congratulate the school for what they have managed to achieve over the past year.

"They deserve real praise for the excellent standard of teaching and care they have shown towards the pupils."
