A FOOTBALL club, village hall and the Citizens Advice Bureau will all benefit from a share of £370,000 from Anglesey’s Charitable Trust.

Now worth around £17m, the trust was established by the former Anglesey Borough Council in 1990 to administer money received from Shell when the company closed its oil terminal near Amlwch.

Currently administered by the island’s 30 county councillors, the trust funds have been used to support several group and organisations on the island including Oriel Ynys Mon and restoring Anglesey’s CCTV service.

It has now been revealed that 14 applicants have been successful in their bids for funding as part of the trust;s large grants applications scheme worth £8,000 or more.

These include replacement floodlights for Cemaes Bay FC, worth £37,710, and the creation of a public toilet and new car parking area at Aberffraw Village Hall, at a cost of £39,794.

Llanfairynghornwy Village Hall will benefit to the tune of £26,388 to fund works to the exterior of the building with Anglesey Food Bank also receiving £20,000 towards a new electric car to deliver food, fuel vouchers and drive people to hospital.

According to a report presented to the Charitable Trust committee, a total of 34 grant applications had been received, totalling £1,47m.

However, in February the Regeneration Committee agreed on a shortlist and later whittled down the applicants to 14.
