THE GOVERNMENT’S support for the new nuclear power station on Anglesey is ‘a step in the right direction’, according to the country’s largest union.
Unite officials say they welcome the news of financial backing for Wylfa Newydd in Cemaes Bay as it could create thousands of jobs during its construction.
Business secretary Greg Clark told MPs yesterday that the government will consider financially backing the project.
Unite's acting national officer for energy Peter McIntosh hailed the government's decision as a "step in the right direction."
"This could be an accelerator for growth generally," he added.
"The government now needs to crack on and make sure that the negotiations are completed in a timely fashion."
