RESIDENTS of Aberffraw gathered together to mark the 60th anniversary of their village hall over the weekend.

On Saturday, a special event was held throughout the day as the community showed its appreciation for the facility.

The many people who turned up saw the judging of an Aberffraw Biscuit Bake Off with Linda Austin and guest of honour Rhun ap Iorwerth AM eventually declaring Colin Goodgroves as the winner.

This was then followed by the Scruffs dog show which was judged by Alice Keir from Aran Vets in Llangefni.

A total of 25 dogs took part in the various classes, with the winners being as follows; 'Most handsome boy dog' - Ryan, 'Prettiest girl dog' - Sali, 'Waggiest tail' - Lucy, 'Dog the judge would most like to take home' - Flambe.

The winner of the 'Best in Show' award was Willow.

Winner of the best village photograph competition was Bryn Morris with a picture which judge Bryan Owen believed "best displayed the attractive setting of the village."

All the guests were treated to free refreshments and cup cakes as a thank you for their support of the hall which now runs Bingo, Line dancing, Yoga and indoor bowling every week and also has Welsh language classes taking place.

Guest of honour for the day, Anglesey AM Rhun ap Iorwerth, said: "It's great to see a community facility such as this still going strong.

"It certainly highlights the important work of the volunteers who have kept it running for all these years.

"A huge thanks must go to them for their hard work and to the hall's management committee chairman Mike Wilson in organising this event today."

Mr ap Iorwerth also applauded a project which is currently underway at the hall, which will see a public toilet provided there, as well as improvements made to the disabled toilet and shower facilities and car parking.
