I can't wait to get started and hopefully bring more success to this club.

Those were the words uttered by Craig Harrison as he was unveiled as the new Bangor City boss on Wednesday afternoon.

Bangor's demotion to the Cymru Alliance following their failure to obtain a domestic licence despite finishing second in the Welsh Premier League, sent a shockwave through the country's football pyramid.

Harrison's appointment as the new Citizens' boss is a statement of intent from Bangor as they embark on life in the Cymru Alliance, which they hope will be a short one.

"We want to get back into the Welsh Premier League as soon as possible," said Harrison, who knows it won't be an easy ride for Bangor with the second-tier looking as strong as it ever has.

Harrison's former club, Airbus, will be expected to challenge for the title after finishing a disappointing 11 points adrift of champions Caernarfon Town this season.

The Wingmakers often rued bad playing surfaces for their failure to bounce straight back to the top table, but Harrison is already well-aware of the challenges posed by certain away days.

"I spent two years at Airbus where we predominantly picked players up from the league below," said Harrison. "I've watched a lot of football from this league and played against teams in the Welsh Cup.

"I know that some of the facilities we will visit will require a Plan A as well as Plans B and C as well."

Rhyl, who finished a distant sixth last season, will be looking to challenge for promotion, while it remains to be seen what happens with new managerial appointments at Denbigh and Holywell, both of whom finished in the top five.

Harrison, who was most recently manager of Hartlepool United, is used to winning, however, the 40-year-old lifting six Welsh Premier League titles, three Welsh Cups and five League Cups as boss of The New Saints, with whom he broke the world record for consecutive wins with 27 during 2016/17.

"We need to use every bit of energy to get out of this league," added the former Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough defender.

"Everybody needs to work as hard as they possible can."

Harrison's former club, TNS, have seen nine players leave Park Hall, including ex-Chester youngster Connell Rawlinson, who has signed a one-year deal with Port Vale.

Rawlinson, who captained Wales C against their English counterparts last season, tweeted: "I'm over the moon to have signed for @OfficialPVFC the chance to play league football for such a big club is something I'm really looking forward to and have worked towards for many years. Can't wait to get started."

Joining Rawlinson in leaving Saints are Wes Fletcher, Steve Saunders, Ryan Pryce, Robbie Parry, Andy Wycherley, Aaron Jones, Aron Hughes Jones and Jacob Farleigh.
