A man who stole meat worth £60 to raise cash because he had run out of money after coming out of prison has been sent back behind bars for another five weeks.
Simon Lilley, aged 36, of Llys Arthur, Bangor, pleaded guilty at a weekend court of stealing the brandy from Asda at Caernarfon.
Prosecuting at Llandudno, Angela Neary said Lilley had 76 previous convictions for 116 offences, of which 77 related to theft or similar charges.
Glyn Jones, defending, said Lilley had been released from prison at the beginning of the month but the former heroin addict had to wait before his benefit payments could be restored. Lilley had said he stole to obtain money in order to feed himself.
But magistrates decided that only custody could be justified. When he is released he will have to pay compensation for thee meat steaks and also costs – £115 altogether.
