Henry Priestman, former songwriter and keyboard player with The Christians, will play the Victoria Hotel, Menai Bridge with guitarist Les Glover next week.

Nine years ago, despite not having sung since 1981, he reinvented himself as a singer-songwriter and went on to release a debut solo CD, The Chronicles of Modern Life.

One critic called it “Grumpy Old Men set to music…fantastic”, while the famous BBC music presenter, Bob Harris, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant – he’s found his voice!”

It was followed in 2014 by the more reflective, The Last Mad Surge Of Youth.

In his youth, his Liverpool band, Yachts, supported the Sex Pistols in 1977 and The Who on tour in 1979.

Priestman also saw three million album sales with The Christians and has worked on soundtracks for James Bond/Xbox, BBC’s Wildlife on One and Natural World and with the likes of 10cc’s Graham Gouldman.

He and Glover have just released a new album, entitled Six Of One And Half A Dozen Of The Other, which includes a version of the 1987 hit by The Christians, Forgotten Town (commissioned for Hull City of Culture 2017) – retitled A Place They Called ‘Forgotten Town' – and a new take on Love You Love You by Yachts, featuring diehard fan Mark Kermode, the BBC film critic, on double bass.

Priestman and Glover will be at the Vic on Friday April 27. Doors open at 8pm.

Tickets are available from Palas Print, Caernarfon and Mudshark Records, Bangor.
