A HOTEL based on the High Street of an Anglesey village is set for a £2m makeover and could be open as early as next year.

The new owners of the existing Sandy Mount hotel in Rhosneigr have been granted planning permission to transform the venue into a contemporary hotel, destination bar and restaurant, open all year round.

The stylish venue will consist of seven large luxury hotel rooms, all with en-suites.

It will also offer a 100+ cover restaurant with a large bar area to serve residents, locals and visitors throughout the year.

Louise and Philip Goodwin say they are planning to create a stylish destination for locals and visitors at the popular coastal location.

Construction of the rebranded Sandy Mount House began on March 19 and could be open to the public by early 2019.

“We are passionate about Rhosneigr as it is a place that is very close to my family’s heart," Louise explained.

"We can’t wait to create this welcoming space. We want it to become a central piece of the community and attract more people to the delights of this gorgeous piece of coastline.”

The new business is aiming to create around 50 new jobs for the local area and they plan to be on the lookout for applicants during the early part of summer this year.

They are also keen to start looking for "top quality" local suppliers to ensure that the food, drink and hospitality on offer truly represents the vast array available on and around Anglesey.

"The ethos of Sandy Mount House will very much be based around relaxed family dining and entertaining," Louise added.

"It will be child and dog friendly and a welcoming place for breakfast before you go off on a coastal walk with the family or a day of kite surfing with friends."

Louise, Phil and their family have owned a house in Rhosneigr for many years and say they enjoy bringing their young family over for holidays and weekends.

They have appointed renowned designer, Michelle Derbyshire, who is well known for her work on venues in Manchester city centre, to lead the project.

The development itself has also been offered funding from the Micro Small Business Fund (MSBF) through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.

Gwyneth Parry, Chair of Rhosneigr Village council believes that the development will be highly beneficial to the community.

“I for one am thrilled to be seeing Sandy Mount House yet again become part of the local community," she said.

"It will be a much welcomed addition to the High Street and it sounds like it will be bringing a truly different and attractive element that will attract people throughout out the year.”
