A police chief has voice concerns over assaults on officers, some of which happened in Wrexham.

Deputy Chief Constable Gareth Pritchard posted on Twitter that eight North Wales Police officers were assaulted in the region over the weekend.

He said: "Unacceptably this weekend eight officers have been assaulted. Officers are serving the public and should not be subject to punching, spitting or biting.

"Our seven point plan to deal with assaults has been followed which includes welfare matters. Offenders have been charged as appropriate."

The social media post came after Wrexham PC Thomas Hough posted that several people were arrested for being drunk and disorderly, public order offences and assault - including on police officers.

He added: "We are not here to be bitten, punched or hit at, especially when all we want to do is our job and ensure everyone goes home safely!"
