A GOVERNOR has spoken of the

“devastating news” that another

Anglesey school – whose future

was thought to have been safe –

has been earmarked for closure.

Anglesey County Council

is conducting a statutory

consultation on proposals for

primary education provision in

the Llangefni area, which could

see Ysgol Bodffordd, Ysgol Corn

Hir and Ysgol Henblas combined.

And on Monday, a scrutiny

committee met to discuss the

futures of Beaumaris and Talwrn

primary schools.

It was recommended Talwrn

stay open for now, with the

decision going to the executive.

A further recommendation was

further consultation was needed

for Beaumaris.

The news comes also as Gwynedd

Council’s cabinet supported

recommendations for

consultation over plans for a

multi-million pound shake-up of

education in Bangor.

On Anglesey, the 90-pupil Ysgol

Henblas in Llangristiolus calling

on people to support it by signing

an online petition and making

their views heard.

Rhys Parry, chairman of

governors at Ysgol Henblas,

said: “It is a complete U-turn. It

is devastating news, a complete

shock, like a bolt out of the blue.

It is not what we thought would

happen. Ours is a thriving and

lively, rural school at the heart

of Anglesey. Pupil numbers

are increasing, we have just

appointed a dynamic and

energetic new headteacher and

the school building is modern.”

Mr Parry is calling for people

to sign the e-petition at Change.
