A MAN was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries after a vehicle entered the water of Hirael Bay, in Bangor.

The incident happened during a one vehicle road traffic collision on Beach Road on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called and the volunteer crew of the RNL Beaumaris lifeboat were sent to investigate.

Officers from North Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, a doctor and the Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team also attended.

The Beaumaris Inshore Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington arrived at 11.05pm and carried out a search for any possible occupants of the vehicle that may have been in the water.

But the lifeboat's services were not needed after it was confirmed only one person had been in the vehicle.

The lifeboat returned to her station at 11.25pm and was made ready for her next service by 11.55 pm.

A Wales Ambulance services NHS trust spokesperson said: "We were called at approximately 10:40pm, on Wednesday, March 14, to reports of a road traffic accident involving one vehicle on Maes Isalaw, Bangor.

"We sent two emergency ambulances, one rapid response vehicle and the crews were supported by a BASICS doctor. One male patient was transported to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital."

A North Wales police spokesperson said: "At 10.40pm, on Wednesday, March 14, North Wales Police were called to the scene of a one vehicle RTC in Beach Road, Bangor, where a car had entered the water.

"The driver of the vehicle received serious by not life threatening or changing injuries and an investigation is underway."
