PLAID Cymru Leader Leanne Wood visited Bangor last week to talk about her aim of "ensuring that decisions affecting Wales are made in Wales".

Ms. Wood says she aims to achieve this through a programme of "democratisation and empowerment".

The 46-year-old paid a visit to the City's Crosville Club on Thursday, March 9.

Along the way, she stopped off at the "Pay As You Feel" cafe in Bethesda and was impressed by the concept of the business.

"The Cafe is amazing, they use waste food from supermarkets and it is run by volunteers who feed warm meals to some people for free," she explained.

"Those who can afford to pay do, sometimes giving more. It’s a fantastic idea because it does a number of good things which help our community and our environment."

Ms. Wood then arrived in Bangor for 6.30pm for the open Plaid meeting and listened to people from the Gwynedd area talk about their aspirations for Bangor and Wales.

Sian Gwenllian AM attended the event and was pleased with the turnout.

"The Plaid meeting was an excellent event in Bangor and held at a great location too." she said.

"It was exciting to see so much interest from non-members who joined in with discussing Leanne Wood’s ideas about empowering communities and education.

"It was great to see so many Plaid Cymru members, Bangor City and County councillors there on the night too."

The event saw the launch of a pamphlet that featured ideas ranging from education to enterprise which emphasise giving people a greater say over the matters that affect them and their communities.

Ms. Wood last visited Bangor in April of last year, when a large crowd gathered at the Eryl Y Mor Hotel to hear speeches from herself, Sian Gwenllian AM and Hywel Williams MP.
