A YOUNG sailor from Gwynedd has won a once in a lifetime opportunity to be coached by a member of the British Sailing team.

Catrin Williams from the Felinheli/Port Dinorwic Sailing Club was announced as one of the winners of Musto's Junior Riders Programme at the 2018 Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Show in London on March 4.

The great British premium performance brand awarded the 15-year-old with a mentorship session led by a member of the British Sailing Team, as well as a £500 voucher.

To be considered as a winner, sailors had to meet a rigorous criteria based on British Youth Sailing values, which included a sailor who was ambitious and displayed a high level of respect and integrity; both on shore and in the water.

Catrin’s sailing coach, Sam Ross, commented on her win saying: “Catrin is a non-dependant team member, which has had a great result on her progression.

"She is self-motivated, but always works well as part of a team too.

"Catrin is always passing on her knowledge to other squad members and her determination and decision making proves how she is a great role model for other young sailors.”

All three winners of the competition joined newly appointed Racing Director at the RYA, Volvo Ocean Race Winner and long-serving Musto ambassador, Ian Walker MBE on stage at the Dinghy Show for the announcement.
