FIVE men were arrested in the Bangor area during a major police operation targeting drugs on Friday.

The arrests came during the North Wales Police's Operation Rattle Impact Day which involved 40 officers.

Taking part in the action were officers from the Armed Alliance Unit, the Roads Policing Unit, special constables, PCSOs, and drugs dogs and drones from the North Wales and British Transport Police.

The day saw the execution of two drugs warrants at addresses in Bangor, together with numerous stop searches on the roads and in the railway station.

As a result five men from the Bangor area were arrested for various drugs offences including possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of class B drugs, assault and one was wanted on warrant.

A quantity of what is believed to be class A and B drugs, cash and numerous mobile phones were seized, as well as two vehicles believed to be used to facilitate the supply of controlled drugs.

Operation Rattle is the police investigation into the supply and distribution of controlled drugs in North Wales by Organised Crime Groups.

PC Elwyn Williams said: “These intelligence led warrants were part of the continuing work being undertaken under Operation Rattle, in response to our communities concerns relating to drug supply and its consequences. It is yet another example of where we have listened to concerns and acted upon them.

“We are showing the public that we are not a force to be reckoned with - there is no hiding place and we are not going away. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of the community sharing their concerns with us,” he added.

Supt Richie Green commented: “It makes me cringe to think that criminals can come into this area and think they own the place. It is an opportunity to send out positive messages. This is ongoing, and the public can expect to see more and more of these days. Possession and distribution of controlled drugs will not be tolerated in North Wales.”
