A man has died and another seriously injured following a road traffic collision on the A55 near Talybont, Bangor on Wednesday night.

Shortly after 9:30pm police were called to a report of a two-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway between Llanfairfechan and Talybont, where a Nissan car, which was travelling in the wrong direction, collided with a silver Hyundai.

All three emergency services attended but the driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor by ambulance and he has since been transferred to hospital in Stoke with serious, life-changing injuries.

Sergeant Raymond Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Sadly this is now being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision and I am appealing to anybody who may have seen the car travelling in the wrong direction to contact us.”

The road was closed whilst officers from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit carried out their initial enquiries, and later re-opened shortly after 4am this morning.

Anybody who may have information is asked to contact officers at the Western Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting reference number W022257.

North Wales Police are not yet in a position to release the name of the dead man.
