A MISS Wales finalist from Anglesey is all set to do her bit for charity with a number of fundraising events over the next few weeks.

Claudia Grindlay from Cemaes Bay is set to compete on behalf of Anglesey & Gwynedd against 33 other young Welsh women at the finals in April.

The 23-year-old, who has been sponsored by The Gadlys pub and Brookside Garage in her home village, is planning to take part in numerous events to raise money for the "Beauty with a Purpose" charity.

Since the charity was established in 1972, millions of pounds have been raised and donated to local and international organisations in aid of disadvantaged children worldwide.

Claudia says she hopes she can help raise further money for the organisation.

"It's a very important charity as it helps raise money for disadvantaged children," she said.

"The work they do ranges from simple things such as helping children who are being bullied to more serious cases such as helping children with cancer.

"All the Miss Wales finalists are tasked with raising money for the charity and I really hope that I can raise as much as possible to help children worldwide."

Claudia will be taking part in a sponsored walk up Snowdon and has organised several raffle nights in her village for the coming weeks.

She has also organised a sponsored head shave for two people and a pamper day at the Beauty Lounge in Valley, where she works as a beauty therapist.

Before starting her job there, Claudia was a health care worker who cared for dementia patients.

In her spare time, she loves to go horse riding and often works with the Riding for the Disabled Association - a charity that provides horses and ponies as a form of therapy and enjoyment to people with disabilities all over the UK.

"I want more people to understand the purpose of Miss Wales and to realise that it is a lot more than just posing in a dress." said Claudia.

"This year I would like to make a difference to my life as well as others in the best and most enjoyable way possible.

"If I win the title of Miss Wales, I will focus on trying to make bullying less of a problem and also highlight the importance of female empowerment.

"I am a Welsh speaker and I feel privileged to even be a part of Miss Wales. I can’t wait to start mixing with the beautiful finalists and this whole experience has made me really excited for my future."

Claudia, who applied to compete in the Miss Wales finals via an online form, will be travelling down to Newport on April 26 before taking part in the finals of the competition two days later.
