LINKS between two communities of the same name located on the opposite sides of the world are being revived thanks to a Bangor Rotarian.

Liz Millman, regularly travels back and forth between her home in Beaumaris on Anglesey and a suburb of the same name in Victoria, Australia where her family members live.

In 2001, a formal link was established between the two communities and for some years, guests from Beaumaris, Victoria, were hosted by local families in and around the Anglesey Town.

However, connections have been lost along the way and Liz says that she is determined to take them back to what they once were.

She recently held an "Australian Day" coffee morning event and such was the popularity of it, that she has now set up another gathering for February 23.

The "Australian Links" will take place from 10.30am and is open to anyone with connections to or interests in Australia.

"Anyone wanting to explore the possibilities of creating more formal links between communities and organisations in Australia and Anglesey are invited to take part." Liz explained.

"Creating links between communities today is an interesting way to explore the past, but also to enable those of us with family here and there to share our stories.”

The meeting at the end of this month will include traditional Australian food such as home baked ANZAC biscuits, Lamingtons and “Fairy Bread".

Liz has set up the event in order to find Australians living in North Wales and explore how more effective links can be created between two communities.
