A woman has died and another woman and a six-month-old baby girl have 'life-threatening' injuries after a crash between a car and a lorry in south Gwynedd.

A Ford Fiesta collided with a lorry on the A487 at Gellilydan shortly before 11.20am on Thursday.

The front seat passenger of the Fiesta was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the Fiesta was airlifted to hospital in Stoke and the six-month-old baby girl airlifted to Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.

North Wales Police have said that both sustained serious life threatening injuries.

The next of kin of all three have been informed and are being supported by police officers.

Sergeant Leigh Evans of North Wales Police's Roads Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts remain with the families at this time.

"We now know that four vehicles stopped to assist at the scene and we are keen on speaking to the drivers and occupants of those cars.

"If anybody has any information that could assist our investigation I would urge them to contact us as soon as possible."
