Sir Bryn Terfel will perform for the first time next spring at the Bangor theatre that bears his name, the venue has announced.

The newly knighted, world-famous tenor and his fiancée, the harpist Hannah Stone, will appear at the launch of the Wales International Harp Festival IV at Pontio’s Theatr Bryn Terfel on February 8, the day that the festival’s president, harpist and composer Dr Osian Ellis, celebrates his 90th birthday. The couple will give the first performance of Dr Ellis’s Cycle of Welsh Folk Songs.

The festival itself will run from April 1-8 next year.

Past students from Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias and finalists in the Urdd Bryn Terfel Scholarship will be supporting artists at the launch event.

Tickets will cost £40 each and will go on sale on October 10 at the Pontio box office and online from www.pontio.co.uk from 10am.

Sir Bryn said: “I am so pleased that we have finally found a date for this incredible concert at Pontio.

“I am very much looking forward to singing in the theatre for the very first time, in the concert to celebrate harpist Osian Ellis, one of Wales’s most iconic musicians.”
