A man appeared in court after trying to smuggle 35 puppies through a ferry port.
Ben Illidge, aged 33, of Northwich, Cheshire, but working in Ireland, admitted seven offences of breaching regulations controlling the movement of animals on November 15.
Prosecutor Julia Longworth told magistrates at Caernarfon there had been Labradors, terriers, beagles, spaniels and Pomeranians.
They were in five cages stacked in the back of a van searched at Holyhead.
The puppies, six to nine weeks old, were hidden in a van on the back of a breakdown truck. The van had no ventilation and was very hot after arriving from Dublin.
The solicitor added: "It was so hot the condensation was running down the windows. It was that which indicated there may be live animals in it.”
No animals had serious health concerns but the cages were too small for the number of animals in them.
Sentencing was adjourned until July 13 for an all options report and bail was granted.
