A FAMILY has raised over £12,400, with more money still coming in, by taking part in a 140-mile bike ride.

Members of the Wise and Evans clan cycled from Marple Bridge, near Stockport, to Treaddur Bay to raise money for the Christie Hospital, in Manchester in memory of their relative, Margaret ‘Margo’ Wise.

Margo died from lymphoma in February, 2015, having been ill for a considerable time.

She became the inspiration behind the fundraising event, ‘Miles for Margo’.

Those taking part included Mark and Libby Evans from Tyn Y Buarth, Llangaffo, Anglesey; Margaret’s daughters, Polly Miller, from Kent, and Megan Wise, from Chorlton-Cum-Hardy in Manchester; Ieuan, Freddie, Chrissie, Molly and Richard Wise; Margaret’s brother, Andy Evans; her sister, Katie Evans; Rob Giles; Libby’s son, George, and his wife, another Katherine.

The family team cycled over two days with an overnight stop in Abergele.

Margo and husband Paul spent their holidays in Trearddur Bay and Margo’s ashes were scattered there.

Paul said: “The riders were lucky. They made the 140 miles with only four punctures and one snapped chain. They did get lost at one point, in Abergele.

“The donations have been fantastic. People have been so generous and kind. The money raised so far is well over £12,000 and still growing!

“All the riders arrived tired, but ecstatic and proud of their achievement.

“Margaret would have been thrilled and extremely proud of them.”

Donations are still being invited on the Miles for Margo JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/
