A SUPERB century from Daniel Beswick was the catalyst behind Conwy’s 176-run defeat to Bethesda.

Opening batsmen Carwyn Williams and Beswick put on a ferocious stand for the first wicket, with the pair making 95 and 106 before they were both eventually sent back to the pavilion by Stan Senior, who ended the day with figures of 2-70 from 12 overs. Visiting skipper Nick Parry made just four before he was superbly run out by Jonathan Davies, but contributions of 24 and 20no from Gareth Edwards and Steve Jones enabled the away side to set an imposing target of 281-4 from 50 overs. The home run chase got off to a poor start when Shaun Davies was out for two, and things got even worse soon after when Rob Miller (16), captain Dan Davies (9) and Jonathan Davies (0) were all dismissed cheaply. Resistance finally came from Philip Davies, who provided a brief glimmer of hope with a superb 50 knock, but a pair of ducks from Evan Williams and Graham Meredith meant the home side fell to 105 all out from 43 overs. The result leaves Conwy 15 points above the drop zone ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Dolgellau.
