THE number of pupils achieving the highest GCSE grades in Anglesey has increased.

Delyth Molyneux, Isle of Anglesey County Council’s head of lifelong learning, said: "It’s a pleasure to report an improvement in the percentage of pupils achieving A* and A again this year (18.9 per cent) with the percentages achieving grades A*-C (66.5 per cent) and A*-G (99.1 per cent) similar to last year.

"It is also pleasing to note the success of our young people in the Welsh Baccalaureate at intermediate and foundation levels.

“This reflects the dedication of our young people and their teachers, the high level of parental support and the support our schools provide to ensure the success of every individual pupil.”

Education Portfolio Holder, councillor Ken Hughes said, “We would like to congratulate our young people on their successes this year, particularly those who have worked extremely hard to win their qualifications.

"We wish them the very best of luck as they move forward in their education and training."
