Students around Gwynedd and Anglesey are finding out their A level results today.
Below is a round-up of how some of the schools in the region have performed.

Llangefni 

Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni

A brother and sister had a brilliant start to their morning achieving fantastic grades.

Hattie Pleasant got 4 A grades in biology, chemistry, mathematics and Welsh Baccalaureate aswell as an A in AS history. She will go on to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh.

Brother, Jack Rhys Pleasant got 3 A's in AS biology, chemistry and mathematics and hopes to go on and study engineering.

Myrtle Easter got top marks in mathematics and further mathematics with two A*. She will go on to study aerospace engingeering at Sheffield University.

Headteacher Clive Thomas said: "This is another set of fantastic results from our pupils. These results are a testament to the hard work of our pupils and staff.

"I am glad to report all of our pupils have been accepted on to the course of their choice."

Bodedern

Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern

Headteacher Catrin Jones Hughes welcomed a strong set of results from her school.

She said: "I want to congratulate all of our students on their results and thank the staff for their dedication and hard work. We are very happy to hear that most of our pupils have been accepted onto their colleges of choice and chosen career."

Star performers included Nia Forrest-Owen who A B C C grades and will go on to study accountacy at Chester University while Glesni Thomas who achieved A B B C will study Welsh at Bangor University.

Menai Bridge

Ysgol David Hughes

Scenes of elation and happiness were seen as students opened their results envelope.

Hours of hard work and commitment paid off as the vast majority of students gained places at their first choice university. 

More than 80 students from the school will progress to higher education at universities around the country.

Star performers included Joe Anderson with four A* and two A's and will study chemistry at Oxford while Jamie Cole achieved 4 A* grades and will study physics at Manchester University.

Coleg Menai

Students from Coleg Menai will be spreading their wings far and wide from September, a popular choice this year being Harper Adams University and Newcastle.

Elin Fflur Jones gained AAC and will be studying Psychology at Bangor University

Student Elizabeth Vipon from Llandegfan, will heading off to Newcastle University to study Japanese, a language she’s been teaching herself on the internet.

She said: “I’m really excited about starting the course, I can’t wait to get to Newcastle and get stuck into student life. I want a really great job either in Japan or in the UK with Japanese company. I’m really looking forward to this next step in my education”.

Another student making the move to Newcastle University is Jasmine Marie Jones from Bethesda, she’ll be studying philosophy and politics. She gained an A in world development, B in psychology and a B in history.

She said: “I’ve had a great time at Coleg Menai, everyone has been very supportive. I’m not sure what I’d like to do as a career yet.

"I’m looking forward to moving to University, meeting new people and starting my course.”

Carys Jones also from Bethesda will be starting a degree in agriculture with science in Harper Adams, she gained a B in art, C in psychology, and C in history.

“I’m so chuffed to get into Harper Adams University, I’m really looking forward to it. I can relax now and enjoy the rest of the day, I’ll probably take mum shopping this afternoon, I’m going to be needing some new things for uni!”

Chloe Jones from Holyhead picked up a C in biology and C in maths. She studied a level 3 vocational engineering course as well as two A levels. Next, Chloe will be training as an engineer with the Merchant Navy, and will be the only woman in a class of 34.

She said, “I’m so pleased to have got a place in the Merchant Navy. I’ve been in the Sea Cadets for many years. This inspired me to choose a career with the
Merchant Navy. I can’t wait to start phase one of my training in Southampton
this month, my first sea phase will be in April.”

Dafydd Evans, Gr?p Llandrillo Menai chief executive designate, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the students have achieved these excellent results which are a credit both to the students and their tutors."

Bangor

Ysgol Friars

Faces filled with excitement this morning at Ysgol Friars when A level students opened their result envelopes.

Steffan Evans, Llandegai recorded some very strong grades with A* in maths, further maths, and A’s in chemistry and physics. He is going on to study aeronautical engineering at Imperial College.

Another student who performed well was Alice Mayer from Llansadwrn, who got an A* in art, A Drama and B English. She will tread the boards and study acting at Guildford school of acting.

Ysgol Tryfan

Ysgol Tryfan students arrived bright and early to recieve their long awaited news.

Many impressive results were achieved including Wesyn Dafydd, Pentir, who got an  A* in Welsh Bac, merit Tech music, B music and C in sports and Welsh. He will hope to be guiding stars of the future when he studies to be a sports coach at Cardiff Met.

Tomos Williams, Bangor, will be embracing his creative side when he studies surveying at Liverpool John Moores. He earned C in physics and design technology.

St Gerard's School

Head girl Eleanor Harris is off to the presitgious Oxford University to study French and History.

Bethesda

Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen

Alun Llwyd, headteacher at Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen, said that he was very very happy with this year’s results. "For the first time every pupil who had applied to university were accepted on to their chosen courses.

"One striking feature this year was that almost all the pupils have decided that they wanted to continue with their studies at Welsh colleges."

Alys Haf who gained 1A*, 2A’s and a B won a scholarship to study law at Aberystwyth University.
