EIGHT islands and 83 gymnasts took part in the Inter Games gymnastics on Anglesey last week.

Twenty-three junior and senior men and 60 junior and senior women from Ynys Môn, Isle of Man, Gotland, Bermuda, Aland, Cayman Islands, Shetland and Jersey took part in two days of competitions at Holyhead Leisure Centre.

The event was sponsored by Ynys Mon Charitable Trust, Horizon, Holyhead Town Council, Biffa, Land and Lakes, Unison and Central Lions.

Donna Jones, of Ynys Môn Gymnastics Club said: “We had a great week and everything ran smoothly.

“The volunteers and judges helped make it a great experience for the visitors and we were overwhelmed by the support from spectators, watching a very high standard of gymnastics on display.”

Among the spectators, were two of the Mersea to Jersey group, Rob and Pete who adopted Anglesey as their island of choice to support in the Island Games in Jersey.

The host island won two medals over the two days of competition, with Ynys Môn’s men winning the team bronze, while Dan Chadwick won a bronze medal in the set vault.

Medals were presented by a host of local VIPs and special guests, including Commonwealth Welsh gold medalist and gymnast Frankie Jones.
