Brymbo made a winning start to the Premier Division season by beating rivals Pontblyddyn by three wickets.

Gareth Boys vindicated Joss Roberts' decision to field first after winning the toss, the bowler claiming 5-41 from his impressive spell.

Opener Phil Davies (31), captain Ben Mason (26) and overseas player Brad Aldous (25 not out) helped Pontblyddyn reach 166 all out.

Brymbo looked like they were going to walk their way to the winning total with openers James Claybrook (47) and Roberts (36) putting on 94 for the first wicket.

But Glenn Chambers (3-38), Kevin Owen (2-26) and Mason (2-18) caused panic in the Brymbo ranks, before the visitors edged home with three wickets remaining and 6.4 overs to spare.

Northop's return to the top flight ended in defeat as Mochdre eased their way to a comprehensive 99-run success.

Andy Poynton claimed 3-18 as Mochdre struggled to 65-5 after being asked to bat first, but an unbeaten century from Matthew Humphreys and Gareth Davies' 48 helped the home side to 189-6.

And that total proved well out of Northop's reach with only three players reaching double figures as Russ Boswell claimed 5-24 to bowl them out for 90.

Champions Menai Bridge got their title defence off to a winning start as they beat newly promoted Denbigh by 94 runs.

Luke Jones (69) helped Menai post 172-9, before Ashley Wood bagged 5-18 as Denbigh were dismissed for 78.

Llandudno were also comfortable winners as they defeated visiting Bangor by eight wickets.

Tom Thornton (3-24), Jack Rimmington (3-36) and Kim Roodt (2-13) combined to skittle Bangor for 87.

Danial Evans then struck an unbeaten 53 as Llandudno reached 92-2 inside just 23 overs of their reply.

Mold suggested that they are well positioned to make an instant return to the top flight by beating Gresford by 77 runs in Division One.

Usman Butt (76) and Richard Crane (59) put on 151 for the first wicket, before overseas player Heinrich Botes struck 50 from 45 balls as Mold reached 266-6, Chris Ellwood grabbing 3-69.

John Crane pocketed to 4-47 and Kyran van der Kooij grabbed 3-36 as Gresford were bowled out for 189, helped by 48 not out from number nine Gareth Bell.

Llay Welfare also got off to a winning start as they recorded a 93-run victory over hosts Menai Bridge 2nds.

Dave Phennah (89), John Lloyd (65) and Tom Davies (42 not out) led Llay to 259-5 after they were asked to bat first.

Phennah then pocketed 3-32 and Jamie Beale claimed 2-45 as Menai were bowled out for 166.

Bersham held their nerve to record a five-run success over hosts Buckley, who threatened to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Suresh Lakmal Koswathage struck 80 and Amith Tilakaratne hit 40 as Bersham hit 239-8, Lee Taylor and Danny Clubbe both taking two wickets for Buckley.

In reply, Buckley slipped to 87-5 before Joel Sampson's 74 took the home side close, but Sambasivam Bhuvanasundaram's 5-30 proved decisive as Bersham restricted the Flintshire side to 234-9.

Chris Woodcock's half century and some fine bowling from Anthony Morris (4-58) and Phil Oddie (3-26) was not enough to help Marchwiel and Wrexham beat Llanrwst, who ran out two wicket winners.

Woodcock struck 50 in Marchwiel's 186-8, and despite Morris and Oddie combining effectively, Llanrwst managed to reach 187-8 with 23 balls to spare.

Elsewhere, Dolgellau (112-3) defeated Bethesda (106) by seven wickets and Conwy (135) lost to an impressive Bodedern (216-8) by 81 runs.
