HOLYHEAD weightlifter Gareth Evans will pit himself against the world’s best this weekend as he competes in the IWF World Weightlifting Championships in Kazakhstan.
The 28 year-old arrived in Almaty earlier this week, where he has been training in preparation for the competition.
Evans has dropped from the 69kg category to 62kg for this competition and has hit form at the right time after setting a new personal best last week.
He said on Facebook: “Very happy with a jerk personal best of 172kg tonight at empire 4 days before I fly out to the world championships!
“Bit of a wobbly recovery but the jerk felt comfortable as a movement with that weight!
“Edging closer and closer to getting triple bodyweight above head!”
The 62kg competition takes place this Saturday, November 8 and Sunday November 9.
