Man denies causing man's death in Bangor van collision

A MAN denied causing the death by careless driving of an 84-year-old former college head of science who died after a collision with a runaway van.

Lee Dwyer, aged 30, of Darwen, Lancashire, is charged with driving a VW van on August 6 in Waterloo Street, Bangor, Gwynedd, and causing the death of Eifion Wyn Davies Hughes.

He was bailed until a trial on October 21 by a judge at Caernarfon crown court.

Mr Hughes taught at Llandeilo Grammar School and then moved to the botany department at Bangor Normal College where he lectured between 1963 until his retirement in 1989.

He was also a talented water-colour artist.
