FRIENDS and colleagues have paid tribute to a well-loved Caernarfon actor.

Gwyn Parry, aged 67, was a familiar face to S4C viewers with roles in such series as Stafell Ddirgel, Pobol Y Cwm, Porth Penwaig, Llafur Cariad and Porc Peis Bach.

Huw Jones, chair of the S4C authority, said he was “greatly saddened” to hear of the actor’s death.

He added: “I was greatly saddened by the news of Gwyn Parry’s sudden death. He was one of the great figures of Welsh drama for many years, as comfortable on stage as he was on the television screen, and one of the pioneers who ventured as a young man to try and carve a career as a professional Welsh actor.

“He was a warm-hearted, likeable person, who had this certain natural shyness until you came to know him. He will be a huge loss to the acting world in Wales.”

Gwyn, who recently appeared in the S4C series Caryl, was also known to viewers as a continuity announcer for HTV in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Gwyn’s manager Jacqueline Gerling said she would remember the actor as a “warm and generous gentleman”, and estneded her condolences to his family
