BANGOR'S High Street has been closed due to a large number of roof slates blown from their buildings by high winds.

Both the High Street and Caerfnarfon Road have been shut to pedestrians, due to fears that shoppers could be injured by falling slates.

North Wales Police were alerted to the slates at about 9.40am this morning, and contacted Gwynedd Council's Highways department.

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Because of strong winds, a number of roads have been temporarily closed.

"At present, Bangor High Street and Caernarfon Road, Bangor are closed due to falling roof slates."

Updates on reopening roads is available at the Council website,
