A 34 year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a car last night (Wednesday), which was later torched near Llanberis.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue crew from Llanberis was called to the A4086 between Llanberis and Nant Peris at 11.30pm, where a white Skoda was found on fire.

Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the blaze, which left the car with 40 per cent fire damage to its interior.

The fire was believed to be deliberately ignited, and North Wales Police arrested a man in the early hours of Thursday morning in connection with the incident.

The man is currently in custody at Llanberis police station and is being interviewed.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: "If anyone was in the area around 11.30pm on Wednesday evening and has any information about the incident, please contact North Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number RC13202257."
