A DATE has been set for the grand re-opening of the Empire Cinema in Holyhead.
The revamped cinema will officially open its doors again on Monday, November 18, with the public opening the following day.
The first film to be screened at the cinema will be Hunger Games 2: Catching Fire, on Thursday, November 21.
Empire Cinema manager, Robert Henderson, said: “It’s near enough there now, the interior is nearly finished, the play equipment is fitted, we’re just waiting for the seats to go in and the external decoration, which is the big thing now.
“It looks really good inside now, when you see it from the outside it doesn’t give the full aspect at the moment.”
Holyhead Town Council were awarded £367,000 in funding in June, including £186,000 grant from the Welsh Government from the Môn-Menai re-generation fund, to fund the refurbishment of the building.
The re-opening of the cinema, which has also created eight jobs, will see the opening of a cafe, a laser tag gaming area and a children’s play centre.
Mr Henderson added: “The buzz in the community is huge now, and excitement is growing. It’s a really big project for the town and it’s something that the town needs.
”It’s been a long process for the whole town council but the finish line is there now.”
