RHAYADER Town have boosted their squad ahead of the end of season run in with the signing of teenager Gethin Jones.

Red Kites player-manager Dylan McPhee, currently out with a back injury, moved to strengthen his squad after being hit by a spate of injuries to key players.

McPhee was delighted to bring the versatile defender to the Weirglodd and will look to include the former Aberystwyth Town player in a Huws Gray Alliance derby at Guilsfield on Saturday.

Jones emerged as a talent at Tregaron Turfs, where he starred for the club in Spar Mid Wales League Two until they dropped back into recreation level football last summer.

Jones was picked up by Aberystwyth Town and has mostly featured for the Seasiders’ youth side in the Welsh Premier Under 19s northern conference this season.

McPhee said: “Gethin can play in defence or midfield and comes to Rhayader having impressed with Aberystwyth over the past two years.

“It is an important part of the season and we need to start picking up points as we were earlier in the campaign.

“We are still 10 to 12 points short of the 30 point target, and safety, so we need a few wins under our belt.

“Guilsfield will be a tough game but it is one that we are looking forward to,” said McPhee. “We played them earlier in the season and it was a tight match between two committed sides.

“I am confident that we have the players at Rhayader to stay up but we need to start turning our promising performances over the past few months into a few more points.”
