MENAI Track and Field's young guns performed outstandingly in last weekend’s Abergele five-mile road race.
In the ladies race, 18 year-old Sarah Livett, fresh her recent Trophy of Vanoni success, ran a superb 29 minutes 47 seconds to win the ladies race overall and set a new course record, beating last year's winner Emma Parry (Wrexham AC) into second.
Livett also set a new championship best performance for the senior ladies age group, which has earned her call-up for the wales road running squad later this month.
Also in the women's race was Viv Edwards, who came away with 2nd overall in the over 55 category and the North Wales F55 title in a time of 45 mins 27 secs.
Carol Livett was the club’s other lady finisher in a time of 54 mins 1 second.
In the men’s race, fifteen year old Iolo Hughes, who recently took silver in the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships, finished a superb fourth overall in a time of 27 mins 35 secs, to take the under 17’s title.
Iolo lead home Menai’s men with Steffan Sayer coming through in a fantastic eighth place, in a time of 28min 21secs, James Kirkwood in 18th, in 29 mins 48 secs, Louie Bennett in 38th in 31 mins 40 secs, and Andrew Gannon finishing in 71st place in 35 mins 8 secs, to take the men's team prize.
