BANGOR’S annual city centre Christmas celebrations have receive a major cash boost.
A meeting of Bangor City Council has awarded £1,100 to The People of Bangor Community Group (TPBCG) from its events budgets.
Town clerk Gwyn Hughes praised TPBCG for raising the city centre’s profile.
He said: “We want to see the event suceed. Their making an effort and we’re supporting that effort.
“We want to see the city centre flourishing and and we need something to attract people in to spend their money in the shops.”
The news comes after the city council announced it would spend £20,000 to upgrade the city’s Christmas lights, which should be completed in time for the week long event, which runs from December 1-8.
TPBCG hope this year’s celebrations will include a winter wonderland in the Deiniol Centre and an international traditional market.
Youngsters will enjoy a visit to Santa’s grotto, complete with an eight foot inflatable snowman, a scenic snowy backdrop and decorations.
There will be live entertainment from Beaumaris Brass Band and Pontio.
