HUNDREDS of people gathered to commemorate an Anglesey play area being granted a Royal seal of approval.
Thomas Close play area is one of 2012 parks around the UK to receive a 99 year lease to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
About 400 people took part in a procession and plaque unveiling in Beaumaris to mark the occasion.
Nigel Black of Thomas Close Play Association said: “It was a riproaring day, absolutely fabulous.
“We weren’t expecting anywhere near the turnout that we got.”
The lease guarantees that the play area cannot be used for any other purpose for 99 years.
Pupils from nearby schools, residents and dignitaries from Anglesey Council were among those who attended the event, which featured a performance from Beaumaris Brass Band’s junior section.
A £200,000 revamp of the play area was completed in 2004.
