A DATE has been set for the opening of Bangor’s newest supermarket.
250 jobs will be created at the ASDA store on Farrar Road, which is due to open its doors on November 26.
Interviews for the 200 permanent and 50 temporary positions will start next week and ASDA area manager Warren Welsh urged residents to apply.
He added: “It’s been a long time coming, this store, and we want to make sure we have ASDA prices in the local community.”
The 25,000 sq ft store will sell groceries, electrical goods, clothes, baked goods and will also have a cafe.
Store manager Sally Blake said the store would donate £100 to a good cause each month, and could also help with larger projects.
She added: “We do a lot for local community causes and we can help by reaching out to folks who live here.”
The store’s training room could be booked for small events.
Gwynedd councillor Gwynfor Edwards, of Deiniol ward, welcomed the store’s opening.
He said: “It’s great to have another new development in Bangor - it will be a massive jobs for Bangor and for the inner city as well, as opposed to jobs on the outskirts in industrial estates.”
Kate Jones of the Deiniol Centre added that the new store “could only be a positive” for businesses in Bangor.
She said: “I think people are fairly positive about it because they hope it will bring a little bit of footfall into the High Street.”
