AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into a post office raid near Caernarfon.
The men, brandishing sledgehammers, stole cash from Talysarn post office near Penygroes shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday.
Senior investigating officer DCI Andy Williams said “I would like to hear from anyone in the vicinity of the post office in the time leading up to the robbery when two men carrying sledgehammers carried out the offence and left with a quantity of cash.
“They made off from the scene in a black Vauxhall Corsa in the direction of Penygroes and this was later found abandoned in an area of Penygroes known locally as “the west end."
“I am particularly keen hear from anyone who saw the vehicle being abandoned in this area and the offenders making off on foot.”
North Wales Police have confirmed a 29 year old man and a woman, aged 31, who were both from the area, were arrested yesterday (Thursday, September 12).
The man remains in custody, while the woman has been released on police bail.
Officers are searching for a second man, described as white and wearing some form of head gear and scarf over his face.
DCI Williams concluded “Offences of this nature are fortunately rare and although no one was threatened or injured the incident has left staff in the post office shaken and distressed and on their behalf I would appeal to any person in the community who has any information to come forward and help us apprehend this person as soon as possible."
Anyone with information should call North Wales Police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
