Supermarket talks a success, says developer

CONSULTATION talks over plans for a new supermarket with the creation of 300 jobs have proved a success, it has been claimed.

About 200 residents attended consultation events last week to find out more about Manchester-based development company Capital & Centric’s plans to build a supermarket on the Vauxhall Industrial Estate between Ruabon and Johnstown.

Company director Adam Higgins has revealed a formal planning application is now set to be submitted in the next two months.

“It has been really good and encouraging to see the responses we have had,” he said.

“It appears we have a fairly high groundswell of support from the vast majority of the people we spoke to.

“We have held various discussions with people and there is a lot of support for having a supermarket on the industrial estate.

“The next stage is to talk to the council again and we are hopeful of submitting a planning application within the next couple of months.”

Mr Higgins believes about 300 jobs could be created as a result of the creation of the supermarket, which he anticipates would be occupied by one of the industry’s leading names.

He said “positive” talks have been held with representatives of the Ruabon and Rhos community councils, while businesses and residents located close to the proposed site were invited to attend the consultation events and have their say.

The proposed development covers a 40,000 sq ft site and would be on the site of a disused industrial building.

Should the planning application be successful. the company hopes work could begin early next year.

Going to be a hard one to object to...projected jobs...on a brown field site...in an already traffic use heavy area on an industrial estate...Developers getting savvy to the planning laws with this and the one at the Air Products site

Why reject it? The whole area is a right dump - it could do with brightening up!!! And besides, the locals will be chuffed to bits what with fuel prices going up - means they can shop locally.

Good news on the horizon then? just the council planners to get past, south Wrexham needs a good supermarket, getting into town to do your shopping is getting to much with the traffic hold ups, we find it easier to shop over the border at Stans in St Martins, somewhere local would be good for everyone.

It sounds like its all done and dusted apart from planning permission then.

I think that as there are more people living here now.... and increasingly food outlets will spring up to accommodate them... Its good for employment, helps the local economy... and will help ease congestion in Wrexham... gets my vote.
