Child Safety Threat - parents' fears over access roads

RESIDENTS fear for the safety of their children when work on a Prestatyn retail park is completed.

Families living near Nant Hall Road in Prestatyn are worried a temporary road used by construction traffic will close when Prestatyn Shopping Park opens, adding to the traffic burden near their school and estate.

Susan Armstrong, who lives on Nant Hall Road, said: “At the moment it looks like the old entrance to Kwik Save is going to be used for delivery wagons – and it’s very near the Bodnant Junior School.

“It’s busy at school times anyway, and with the opening of the park, there will be 100 per cent more cars anyway.

“It’s not going to be good.”

Jane Bone, also of Nant Hall Road, was concerned her nine year old child who walked to school would be put at risk.

She said: “The thought that there’s going to be delivery trucks going down the road is awful.”

Paula Hutchen, who lives in Kirby Avenue, was concerned the recent merger between Bodnant infants and Juniors would mean more youngsters travelling along the busy road.

She said: “This plan is ridiculous. It might work for Tesco but it will be terrible for the residents.”

Chris Ruane, MP for the Vale of Clwyd, who is in discussion with Denbighshire County Council’s Highways Department about the issue, said under current plans, Nant Hall Road would have two accesses to the retail park via the Glyn Avenue roundabout and the controversial delivery route.

A Denbighshire spokesman said: “The HGVs are currently using temporary access but as the development progresses and when completed, the delivery vehicles will use a permanent access – the same as that which was used for the former Kwik Save and warehouse which used to stand on the site.”
